Puzzle Hero is my newest favorite game

Ginger wrote this on July 10th, 2008

This game is similar to Puzzle Quest, but different in a lot of ways that make it easier, and more fun to play. Puzzle Hero takes you on a journey through magical lands to find your brother, who has been kidnapped by an evil wizard. Along the way, you’ll battle magical creatures and funny monsters. The really cool thing about this match 3 game is that you get to see the actual battles taking place, right above the match 3 board!

You start out as a peasant girl, with little armor and weaponry. At the beginning of the game you get to choose your hairstyle and skin tone in the Salon, while you get to choose your clothing (and later, your armor, weapons, and magic items) in the Shop. Everything has a cost, of course, so gold coins are available throughout the Match 3 game play. The game play is more strategic in this Match 3 game than you might be used to… match swords to attack, match magic hats to gain the mana that powers your magic spells, match leaves for experience points to gain levels… much like a typical role playing game.

Strategy isn’t left to the Match 3 portion of the game, though. As you gain experience, and gold, you’re able to purchase armor and weapon upgrades of which there are plenty to choose from. Each item has it’s own properties, such as adding to your defense or attack ability. Some items even have magical abilities such as fire, ice and poison! Before every battle, you have the ability to configure your armor and weapons to best match the foe you’re about to fight. For some, you may need more fire magic because the monster has extra defenses against fire, etc.

What a fun game this is! I’m totally addicted, and have already completed the quest to save my brother once, on the easiest level, “Normal”. My fighter reached level 29, I want to see if I can get a higher level than that with a new one on the “Heroic” mode… fighting in the Arena is another way to increase your levels! Once I finished that, an Arena became available (it very well may have become unlocked before that, and I just didn’t notice because I was so enthralled with the game) where you can battle the individual monsters outside the Quest mode.

There is no time limit per round, so you have time to plan your strategy. However, there is a penalty for making a “wrong” match, meaning the pieces you choose don’t actually match at least three pieces. You gain an extra turn for matching four or more, though… and when you match four or more swords, you attack with extra damage. I won’t say any more, because I don’t want to ruin some of the surprises this game holds in store for you, but I will say that this is a downright bargain for the $6.99 Game Club price! Burger Rush combines match 3 with Diner casual games

Ginger wrote this on July 7th, 2008

Burger Rush match 3 gameBurger Rush is the first of it’s kind. A match 3 game that incorporates the “customer satisfaction” aspect of the popular “Diner” games. You may remember seeing games like Coffee Rush, but don’t be fooled, there are differences, and Burger Rush was the original.

Burger Rush offers a nice break from the traditional match 3 game. On screen bonus matches are available in the form of coins, microwaves, and sundaes. Extra coins are used to buy your upgrades between screens, microwaves clear an entire row after being used in a match, and sundaes fill up your most unhappy customer’s “happiness meters”. Not only do you have to match 3, but you have to make sure that the matches you make are the required ingredients for the waiting customer’s orders. It’s pretty easy to become distracted if you don’t keep an eye on what you’re supposed to be doing.

casual pc game Burger RushThe idea here is to satisfy your customer’s orders by matching the components of what they want. For example, when a customer orders a burger with cheese, you have to match burgers and cheese slices in order to fill their request. Bonus points are available for including sodas and french fries with the orders, which become available after you’ve made the required number of matches. Candy and other treats are available to help calm impatient customers, and your upgrades include new burger recipes that bring in more cash. Fans of Match3 and Diner games will find this casual game addicting, and difficult to turn off! Download the free one hour trial here!

Time to match three in Alexandria puzzle adventure

Ginger wrote this on July 5th, 2008

Lost Treasures of Alexandria Match 3 Game This Match 3 games incorporates a treasure seeking adventure mode with a puzzle mode, and an arcade mode. You have to start your adventure in Egypt, gathering the various parts of a key that will allow you to continue towards finding the treasure. You’re going to experience more than just the typical “Match 3″ method here, though, so be prepared! Download your free one hour trial here.

Match 3 Puzzle Adventure Game Along with the typical “tile swap” to match three, you’ll also have to rotate blocks of four tiles to bring a match of three together. You’re competing with a clock, so you must work quickly. Unlike some of the other match 3 games I enjoy, this one penalizes your time if you make a move that does not result in a match… so don’t go clicking around aimlessly!

New casual pc game: Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures

Ginger wrote this on July 1st, 2008

Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures is today’s new download game. This is a platformer game, which means that the screen scrolls to the right in the classic arcade style, while you travel up and down different levels (aka platforms) to obtain your goals. In this particular game, you are playing a cute little turtle that has to save all the baby turtles from the bad guys!

I’ve downloaded the game, and I was happy to find that it’s not like a lot of the other “platformer” casual pc games I’ve tried. See, I don’t like having to use my keyboard at all when I’m playing a game! This is the first platformer game I can remember playing that allows you to move around using your mouse. You can even jump by left clicking. While this does afford you some mobility without using the keyboard arrow keys, you do still need the keyboard to take actions (control key), and “view” the playing board around you (space key with arrows).

Despite my distaste for using the keyboard, I did play this one for the free hour. It reminded me a lot of my Sega Genisis days (yes, I’m old! LOL)… and playing Sonic the Hedgehog. You have to protect the baby turtles from dangerous monsters by jumping on them (eliminating them), or crushing them with boxes that you push or pull around the board. The boxes are also used to cover dangerous “pits of death”, allowing the baby turtles (and yourself) to walk over them.

It’s important to remember that the boxes you move around are also used to allow you access to otherwise restricted areas… by jumping on them, it will give you the height you need to jump to levels you couldn’t otherwise reach, making the order in which you do things very important at some points. If, for example, you use a box to cover a death pit too early, you may not be able to use that box to reach a portion of the screen that you need to get to… I learned this the hard way!

One other beginner’s tip that I can offer is this… the baby turtles need to find their way to the exit door in order for you to get credit for saving them. Make sure you don’t exit yourself until all your rescued baby turtles have reached that door, or you won’t get credit for them! Overall, I can see where platformer fans would become quickly addicted to this game, and find themselves needing to save ALL the baby turtles. Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures is sure to please casual pc game fans of all ages!

For those of you that find Turtix absolutely adorable, as I do… you may want to check out the original game featuring this cute lil guy. Turtix is the original side scrolling adventure that captivated so many with it’s charm and ease of play, that it wasn’t long before the developers had to create Turtix 2: Rescue Adventures! Enjoy them, and if you play them, comment here to let me know what you think, or join a community of casual pc gamers for more sharing of tips and tricks over at PCgamesJunkie.com!

Ten BRAND NEW hidden object games - a phenom!

Ginger wrote this on June 29th, 2008

Hidden Object games are something of a phenomenon … in the past couple of years they’ve become the most addictive casual pc game genre by selling literally millions of copies. Fans of these games wait with baited breath for new challenges, and new games. I’ve made a special presentation for hidden object game lovers, highlighting the ten NEWEST hidden object games available through my game clubview them here.

My first experience with a hidden object game was “Hidden Expedition: Titanic“, and I must admit that I played that game non-stop until I had completed it. The best part about these games is that the objects don’t appear in the same place every time you play a level, so it’s like you get a fresh “round” each time. There are a lot of different types of these games, with special bonus rounds… and some even have “puzzles” and/or riddles worked in between the different levels [as in Madame Fate]. Sometimes you have to solve a riddle first, in order to figure out which objects you have to find [as in Forgotten Riddles: The Mayan Princess]! Then there are the 3D, panoramic view type… these allow you to move about a room or space in 360degrees… very challenging… and different [as in Mystery in London]

LOL The challenges are never ending, and this is why the genre has such a very strong following.

Found a great new game today!

Ginger wrote this on June 29th, 2008

If you’re a “Farm Frenzy” addict, then I strongly recommend downloading this game! I’m pretty sure (I will go check) that it’s made by the same designers… the graphics are very similar, and the products & buildings are almost identical. [Read my official review of Farm Frenzy here]

Where Farm Frenzy was about utilizing the products of animals, this one’s about using the products harvested, and processed from your farm. There’s a ton of rewards to earn, and this game includes an interesting twist to the production method you must choose. I haven’t received all the awards yet, but I have “developed” everything in my farm. While I find it a little frustrating that ALL of the production buildings are not available at the same time, I do appreciate the challenge that this presents. I’d call this a “spin off” of Farm Frenzy, as opposed to a sequel.

All work and no fun. For now.

Ginger wrote this on March 17th, 2008

I’ve pulled so many all nighters in the past week or so that it’s all starting to catch up with me, I’m exhausted. I wanted so badly to play Diablo II with hubby earlier, but was too tired. (Or 90th level characters are starting to find the coolest items! LOL) We wound up watching the news for three hours as I drifted in and out of sleep. Obama and the PreacherMan dominated every news show.

I did make time to watch the latest episode of Eli Stone this morning, after hubby left for Jury Duty. (So glad he doesn’t have to do that again for six years… showing up for one day was enough.) I didn’t think Eli Stone was going to be a good show, but of course I had to watch it just because it’s available on ABC.com LOL. His “visions” due to the brain aneurysm happen at such inopportune times, that it’s really funny to watch how he deals with it in today’s corporate world. The latest episode had a dragon, and a knight in shining armor… so I was hooked. It was also refreshing to see a corrupt, dangerously inept Doctor and Hospital lose a case to the tune of $8M.

My tokens refilled on IconBuffet today, so I spent some time tonight playing their trading game until I got ten new sets of icons. Yay! I’ll be making a change to this blog using them soon, as category indicators in the post titles. I’ve got a casual pc game review half written for “Magic Farm“… I guess I’ll clean up the remaining client work on my to-do list tonight so that I can finish writing that game review and post it tomorrow. Nothin’ but fun here. LOL
