Still learning new stuff

Ginger wrote this on April 2nd, 2008

Let’s see… in the past couple of weeks I’ve gotten three new graphics programs, two sets of video tutorials for learning how to use them… and very little sleep as a result LOL. I’m really glad I finally went and got some of the stuff I’ve needed for a while. I consider it all “reinvesting” in my business… (and it’s all tax deductible, who am I kidding here lol). Along with the tablet (I’ve so needed that), I’m really able to use all the traditional art skills I learned so many years ago. It may be digital, but it feels good to be painting again. The First picture below is the result of my learning to paint the hair on the figures I render in Poser and DazStudio. Click here to get an idea of how they start out, before painting (it’s a shot of the same figure before painting, just as she came out of Daz).

WordPress came out with a new version, so I’ll be updating the ‘ol journal today. If things get a little weird here, that’s why. The twins are in a play, so I’ll be busy watching their performances for the next couple of nights. Rehearsals are over… Yay! LOL My Mom and Gramma Julie are going to be there tomorrow night, so there’ll be four generations together again. How cool is that?

Print shop is open with new art posted!

Ginger wrote this on March 26th, 2008

Well, it took three days of intermittent painting, but I’ve just completed my first piece using new software! I broke down and finally bought Poser 7 and Painter X. Of the two, I’ve got to say that Painter X is my favorite. All those years of art school weren’t wasted after all! The program is the best simulation for traditional painting there is… and soon, I hope, I will have the Wacom tablet to go with it… lol, I’m waiting for it to be delivered via FEDEX. (I thought they were supposed to be fast! LOL) I can’t even begin to describe how satisfying it is to be able to paint again… without the mess! LOL Must. Sleep. Now… it’s been a couple of days! Enjoy.

I’m a Deviant Artist

Ginger wrote this on March 24th, 2008

Well, I’ve been so busy learning how to use my 3D graphics software, and having fun on Deviant Art, that I’ve neglected the ol’ blog! Bad WebWench! LOL I’m so excited about having started an online gallery of my journey through learning how to manipulate 3D figures, and then painting them! Deviant Art is a site I’ve always visited for inspiration from other talented artists, and had forgotten about totally. I’ll include some thumbnails below that will lead to my gallery on DeviantArt. Remember, I’ve only been using the 3D program for less than a week, so it’s all looking a tad “beginner” stylie. LOL It’s been a year or so since I even opened the 3D programs, so it’s like learning it all over again. I hope to pick it up fast so I can build up my own Print Store!

Through my lil network of friends there, and the artists I like to watch for new “Deviations”, I found another artist who blogs using WordPress… Vex blogs about Poser (the 3D software she uses most) and Das|Studio (the software I use). Being that I’m still learning how to use the program, I was thrilled to have found her blog! She also offers characters, materials and other content for 3D artists to use in their creations, through Vamp3D. View her amazing artwork on DeviantArt. I can’t tell you how nice it was to find another artist that skins forums too!

Creating digital art in 3D again

Ginger wrote this on March 19th, 2008

I’ve come full circle. When I decided that my health wasn’t up to increasing my client load, I decided to continue to maintain the client sites I was currently managing, which would give me the time I needed to concentrate on learning more about rendering 3D digital art. That was about five years ago. I started with Bryce, a 3D landscape and object rendering software program.

As it goes here on the ‘net, I got involved with growing the affiliate side of my business… and lost track of my art in the process. My consulting business was well established before I realized that my casual pc game addiction could be earning me money (Even if it was only enough to pay for my games, I’d be happy. Thankfully, I’m not the only addict! LOL)… so yet another “side business” was born. In all that time I hadn’t even so much as opened the 3D programs. There simply wasn’t time.

Now that my affiliate and consulting business is pretty much running itself (I have a natural talent for gaining favorable SERPs), I have time to actually run a personal blog, and blow the dust off those 3D graphics programs. After my reformat, it seemed as good a time as any since I had to reinstall the software anyway.

To my (pleasant) surprise, the software I use had been updated to a new version, and there were even more toys to add to them to make playing on the graphics workspace so much more fun! The result? Full circle… I’m once again dedicating my “me” time to learning, and enjoying 3d graphics creation. I’ve added a page here where I’ll be updating the latest results of my exploration into the world of digital art. My first piece is very … beginner level (to say the very least), but I’m thrilled to have remembered enough to get that much accomplished.

I’m excited to be focused once again on the things that I’m really passionate about.

Original Digital Art by WebWenchGinger

Update: New digital art galleries on my Custom Design and Digital Art blog.

I’ve been working with DazStudio and Bryce for years. Well, I’ve been trying to learn how to work in them is probably more accurate. LOL After an unscheduled reformat of my hard drive a few weeks ago, I wasn’t looking forward to loading all my software and content again… but to my surprise, I found there was a new version of DazStudio available (it’s a free, open source 3d rendering program)… and all kinds of new and improved content!

I guess things really do happen for a reason! I spent the better part of today reloading all my graphics goodies, and wanted to share some of what I’ve done with you all. There’s no longer a pressing need for me to figure out gallery plugins! I’ve started an online gallery of my artwork over on DeviantArt. I’ll keep a preview of my latest piece on this page, which will lead you to my gallery if you choose to take a gander! Eventually, my print shop will be full of goodies too.

If you’re interested in trying out some of the best software I’ve ever tried… aspiring graphics artists, this is a must … I’ve included links (click the banners) to the programs I use below the thumbnails of my work. Enjoy, and let me know if you decide to try them out!
