I was going to include the term “sinister sun”, or “the sun is evil” in the title to this post, but figured “Vampires” would cover a few other topics I wanted to update on here too.
Ahh… where shall I begin?
Riding season finally began here in upstate NY (along with summer, or what disguises itself as summer these days). We’ve been enjoying riding so far this year, and have been lucky enough to find the time to add some serious mileage to the Glide. One of the things we enjoy most about riding season is that we get to see friends and family that we don’t often (or ever) get to see during the long winters here. With the gas prices going insane, there are more and more new riders every year, so we’ve enjoyed meeting a lot of new people and making new friends, too.
One of the motorcycle events we ride to every year is the Americade, in Lake George. Tons of bikes, a huge trade expo (vendors include leather and riding gear, customization booths, and aftermarket companies), and over 250 thousand people make it a great way to celebrate the start of summer and the riding season. We take the week off to ride, shop, and recover LOL.
For me, it’s always a trade off… being allergic to the sun (less than an hour in the sun and I’m burned and physically ill… drained of energy for about a day) makes it a day out that I know I’m going to need time to recover from. We rode up to the Lake yesterday with some family and friends, and I’m home today recovering from the sunburn and a wrenched neck. The “slighty breezy” weather (that’s what they say on the news) tweaked my neck on the ride up there, and flared up an old injury.
People joke with me about my reaction to the sun, asking if I’m a vampire… it’s the running joke around here. The joke’s always funnier when I’m not in so much pain, and appreciating the irony of the fact that if I were a vamp, my neck wouldn’t hurt like this!
Usually though, the trade off isn’t so bad because we have a great day seeing all the motorcycles, and shopping at the trade shows… but we went up a day too early… the vendors were just setting up, and the trade show wasn’t open. The first official day of the event wasn’t until today. We could all swear that it started on the 2nd, as it stated on their website, but we were wrong…
Americade always offers more activities than any other rally and for 2008 we’ve added more New Events than ever !
You can enjoy 5 new MiniTours, 3 Poker Runs (with a new route), a new scavenger hunt, a new moonlight boat cruise as well as a dozen daylight ones, 2 rodeos, 50+ seminars, 2 parades, parties, nearly $100,000 in door prizes, and 2 tour expo trade shows (bigger than ever).
Also: 17 manufacturers offering demo rides on the latest bikes and trikes, and on Saturday, U.S Champ freestyle rider Chris “Teach” McNeal will demonstrate his amazing riding skills. And… a whole lot more.

So come, join the fun, June 2 - 7.
Yikes!
The events for registered attendees starts on Monday… but the trade expo doesn’t open until Tuesday. Ok, noted. Oops. So, even though we made the best of it with lunch at the Lake, and shopping in some of the village stores with the obligatory visit to a local tavern… it really is the trade expo that we look forward to the most. Overall, it was still a fun day’s ride, and we all did make the most of it and had a good time. (As I was typing this, I got a call and found out that one of our friends wound up going to play pool on the way home… and she wound up in a bar fight, black eye and all. Weirdness. Glad that stuff doesn’t happen when I’m around!)
Anyway, as I sit here “recovering” from the sun and neck trauma (LOL), I got to do some catch up on my iTunes shows. I giggled when I realized that a lot of the shows I collect full seasons of revolve around vampires, again reminding me of the evil of the sun… I just finished watching season one of “Moonlight”, and I’m really disappointed now because I loved that show. (Mick St. John is the main character who is a Vampire Private Investigator with a human love interest, what’s not to love?) Disappointed, because I found the show through an announcement made by a friend of mine on DA that the show had been canceled. Why do they always cancel my fav vamp shows in the middle of a developing romance? Grr. I remember feeling this way when they cancelled the 90’s remake of “Dark Shadows”.
Since I’m under orders to rest, I decided it was time to figure out how to back up my iTunes purchases to my external drive, which had stumped me because the “backup” function in iTunes only offers the option to copy to disk. Duh, yeah I know… but I’m lazy… when the backup function wouldn’t let me automatically backup to my external drive, I lost all common sense. It wasn’t until I searched on About.com that I found out that an external backup was as easy as “copying” the iTunes folder. LOL Ok, so sometimes it really IS the simple solutions that escape me.
I’m proud to say that I’ve successfully backed up “Supernatural”, “Moonlight”, and “Saving Grace”. In some small way, I hope my purchase of Moonlight will help another network decide to pick up the show and continue it.
Well, I guess I’ll check up on my villagers, and then get some sleep. If you’re a casual game player, the new Virtual Villager game was just released. I have all three, the girls and I really enjoy this series of games… kinda like lil sims!
